Our Tattoo Creeper project is a way to collaborate with talented artists to add their spin on our creepers. We love working with creatives in any capacity & we want to see the world from their lens. To check out more of Mikaela's work head to her Instagram

Tell us about yourself & the shoes that you customized

Hey! My name is Mikaela and I am a 24 year old full time artist from the Midwest that specializes in custom shoes! I was so excited to get these boots and do something unlike my typical work. For these, I really wanted to let my inner child loose and create something more expressionistic rather than highly detailed realism like my usual custom creations.

How would you describe your art style?

I would say my art style is just about any and everything. I don’t like to be tied down to one style as it can get repetitive for me, and I find it so much more rewarding to be able to create what my heart desires at any given moment. When I’m creating just for myself, I do tend to find myself leaning into more abstract, colorful expressionism though.

Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

I tend to get extremely inspired by nature. The sky, clouds, birds, plants etc. all really make me want to create! I also am very inspired by many of the artists I follow on social media.

What’s your typical process of coming up with a new design?

A huge chunk of my work is commission based so I work with my clients directly getting an idea of what they are going for, and typically I ask for a bit of free range to create within those desires, while also throwing my own spin on the artwork. When I’m creating for myself however, my own mental health, feelings, and thoughts are the force behind a majority of the work I create.

What piece of yours is your all-time favorite and why?

That’s next to impossible for me to say as I am the worst decision maker ever. I am also so proud of many different works for different reasons, so I would have to pick a favorite work depending on my mood that day.

What is your favorite thing about being an artist?

My favorite thing about being an artist is being able to bring the ideas that are in my head, out into the physical world, for myself and everyone else to immerse themselves in! I also feel a huge sense of pride being apart of a community that is by definition, extremely creative and thought provoking!
