Tell me about yourself:
My name is Kandace Layne and I tattoo at Queen Bee Tattoo Parlour in Marietta, GA.
How long have you been tattooing for?
I specialize in henna inspired/ornamental tattooing. I have been tattooing for six years.
What made you want to become a tattoo artist?
I realized I want to tattoo when I was around 14 years old after reading a lot about Japanese tattoo culture. It really inspired me and seemed like a realistic career path since I already loved drawing.
Why did you decide to customize the shoes the way you did?
I chose to adorn the shoes with paisley, henna inspired elements, and flowers, similar to a lot of my tattoo work. I grew up in a Muslim household so henna was always part of my life. When I was a kid I used to draw and paint my shoes and leather jackets so I really had fun with this.
How was working on this project for you?
I had a great time designing and customizing the shoes. It was a little scary drawing on camera but once I got used to it, it was a great experience.
Are you currently working on any other projects?
I am currently doing a tattoo giveaway with Gillette Venus so that’s very exciting!
How long have you been an artist for?
I have been an artist for longer than I can remember
What’s your favorite tattoo that you have & why?
My favorite tattoo I have is a Japanese Phoenix that is still being worked on by my friend Proph Bundy.
How were you keeping busy during quarantine?
During quarantine I actually had an amazing time. I spent so much time with my family, a lot of time outdoors which I love, did a yoga challenge, adopted a bird...It was probably the happiest I have been in a while.
